Fitzgerald River system
Five sites were sampled on the Fitzgerald River, three in the Sussetta River and one in Twertup Creek; they are shown on the map above. Photographs are available for each site:
Background
The Fitzgerald River system was sampled on the 28th to 30th April 2008, 15th and 16th March 2006, 2nd and 3rd November 2006, 6th and 7th September 2006.
Fish
Fish traps were not set at any of these sites.
River foreshore vegetation condition
The condition of the vegetation bordering the river at the sites sampled varied from pristine to degraded. Many of the sites were pristine to near pristine with few weeds and healthy native vegetation. The most degraded of the sites was FIT03 with heavier weed infestation.
Water Quality
Water samples were taken once from some sites so while they help describe the water quality at the time of sampling they can not be used to explain the overall condition of the river for the rest of the time.
Few water samples were taken from this system with only one sample from the Sussetta River and one from Twertup Creek analysed for nutrients. For the Sussetta the total phosphorus was 11 µg/L and for total nitrogen 490 µg/L. For the Twertup the total phosphorus was measured at 14 µg/L and total nitrogen was 1300 µg/L.
